PROJECT FACTS:

Name: Maxim Gets Packaging Plant Up and Running Again
Location: Longview, WA
Type: Packaging manufacturing facility

MAXIM FACTS:

Project Duration: Less than one week
Total Contractors: 1

CRANE STATS:

• Grove GMK 7550 All-Terrain Crane with 101-foot luffing jib, MegaWing configuration and 308,600 pounds of counterweight

• Grove GMK 5165-2 All-Terrain Crane with 62,800 pounds of counterweight

• Two Scheuerle six-axle SPMTs.

The Project

Located north of Portland, Oregon, a packaging plant needed to urgently replace a conveyor system that went down. Fortunately, the company had spare conveyor equipment onsite that could be used to resume manufacturing. However, the 65,000-pound pieces had to be carefully moved more than a mile to be staged for reassembly.

The scope and scale of this project required experience with comprehensive lift solutions and heavy haul projects that only a company with Maxim’s resources could provide.

Equipment

For this project, Maxim provided two Grove AT cranes (550-ton and 165-ton) and two 6-axle Scheuerle Self Propelled Modular Transporter (SMPT) to move four conveyor pieces each weighing more than 65,000 pounds. Maxim’s eightperson crew included two crane operators, two oilers and four working the SMPT. The crew used extreme care to work in the tight quarters of the manufacturing facility.

Results

A successful lift and move of the equipment in less than a week – the project was completed ahead of schedule.
