Ever since the current office tower was declared “functionally obsolete” in 2015, the City of Miami sought creative ways to replace the old building and bring the office space up to modern standards. Thus, the city decided to build an entirely new administration building. The new building will exist on the Miami Freedom Park campus, for which Maxim also provided lift support. Because of its proximity to this new entertainment hub, the building will be surrounded by retail, hotel spaces, a 58-acre public park, and a stadium. The new 748,975 square foot building will house 890 offices, and will consolidate City Hall, City Commission Chambers, the commissioner’s office, the mayor’s office, and essential civic service departments. The atrium alone will span 383,000 square feet to support a customer service-oriented layout.
A project of this scope and scale demands immense precision, strict adherence to timelines, and an unwavering commitment to safety. Maxim drew upon its historical expertise with stadium projects in major cities to move forward in the safest, most efficient manner possible, with minimal disruption to surrounding city life and deep collaboration and respect for all stakeholders.
This ambitious project required comprehensive lift solutions and adherence to the highest standards of safety. Maxim brought in a total of three cranes for this job. Two Potain MDT389-L16 Tower Cranes and one Potain MD559 erected the Miami administration building over the course of 8 months.
Maxim used top-tier lifting equipment for this project, specifically selected for the site’s constraints and load requirements.
This project created 1,880 new jobs and brought 1,200 employees who were previously spread across the city to one location. This new proximity of government employees to each other and the public is set to encourage interaction between the two spheres and promote a sense of community and camaraderie. The efficient, safe process allowed the city to adhere to timelines and deliver the results it promised to its five hundred thousand residents.
