Beginning the fall of 2016, the Maxim team was contracted to perform the centerline heavy rigging scope on the Moxie Freedom Energy project in Northeastern Pennsylvania for Gemma Power Systems. The Freedom project involved the construction of a 1028MW Natural-Gas Fired power plant, which consisted of twin combined-cycle single shaft power blocks. Each power block had gas turbine, generator, and steam turbine centerline equipment.
Maxim’s scope included a receipt of each major turbine and generator component under our gantry hook at the project site. This included two 593,000 lb. gas turbines, two 925,000 lb. generators, two 225,000 lb. high pressure turbine assemblies, and two 380,000 lb. intermediate pressure/low pressure turbine assemblies. Each major component was unloaded from hydraulic platform trailers, traversed and placed over foundation pedestals with the utilization of Maxim’s 700 ton hydraulic gantry system.
The sequence of events included the rough setting of both gas turbines on each power block prior to the staging of the generator stators to allow the OEM to final assemble by inserting each rotor with Maxim’s 300- ton all-terrain crane. Once the generators were assembled, each was rough set with our 700-ton gantry to make way for the receipt of the HP Turbine and IP/LP Turbine Assemblies.
The Maxim team safely and efficiently completed the heavy-rigging scope rough setting six turbines and two generators on each power block completing the project in lock-step with the OEM schedule for all component deliveries.
