Marine 1 – Lifting a Legacy

A large, Marine One helicopter is displayed inside a spacious, well-lit exhibition hall with floor-to-ceiling windows. The helicopter's body is predominantly dark in color with the white top and distinct markings associated with its presidential transport role. Don’t miss this behind-the-scenes look at a moment of history in the making!

Davis Barksdale, Manhattan Construction: If it’s a easy lift, Maxim’s got it. If it’s a hard lift,  Maxim’s got it. If it’s an almost impossible lift,  Maxim’s got it. There’s no need to worry about it. They’re going to figure it out for you. Right? You may not have the expertise on your side. You may not even know how to do it. That’s kind of where Maxim comes in. They’ll bring their guys in. They’ll figure it out and you all will get the job done.

My name is Davis Barksdale. I’m a project manager for Manhattan Construction here at the George and Barbara Bush Pavilion. The helicopter behind me is the Marine 1 helicopter it was in use from President Reagan all the way through President Biden.

Kenneth Lookingbill, Maxim Crane Works: We were contacted to come set Marine 1 here at the George Bush library. Our salesman Todd Jefferson came out and took a look at the job, worked with the folks from Manhattan and their Crews to pick the helicopter off of transport and move into the building.

So, it was an honor for us to get to do that. One, just to be asked to look at it, I think was an honor and a privilege. And then to be able to be a part of the job, the bigger picture of this whole library, was something that was really neat and, you know, a standout in my career here at Maxim.

Todd Jefferson, Maxim Crane Works: Working with Manhattan was very very easy, really no issues. We went ahead and selected our LTM 1110. That crane was part of our big equipment refresh and was the perfect crane for what we were trying to do over here.

I was just ecstatic that I was chosen to be a part of this project. To be able to put something in the community here that lots of people are going to be able to come and see at any time. I think it’s an incredible opportunity to me.

Davis Barksdale, Manhattan Construction: When I think of Maxim I just think of expertise and professionalism. We’re all out here growing, right. We want Maxim to be better, we want Manhattan to be better. So, why not partner together and rise up together. And we can only go up from here.
