Maxim/AmQuip Crane Rental reaching new heights in the First State Croda Atlas new plant will convert corn-based ethanol or alcohol into ethylene oxide, which will be the first of its kind in North America. Once expansion is completed, the chemical will be used to make existing Croda products, including, face creams, toothpastes, paints and laundry detergents. In addition to this conversion of chemicals, it will eliminate the need for long distance rail shipments of hazardous ethylene oxide from Texas. Croda Atlas has made major investments to keep its products sustainable and environmentally sound; approximately (70%) seventy percent of Croda’s raw material come from renewable sources. The new expansion of this bio-ethanol plant is scheduled to go online in the year 2017. Since the beginning of construction, the Maxim/AmQuip team supported the project with several contractors; recently reaching its first milestone by completing the steel erection of the main processing center. Our team in the northeast region successfully erected the steel structure using a variety of support cranes ranging from 75 ton through 550-ton All Terrain & Rough Terrain Cranes. The largest utilized crane to perform this stage of the expansion was our Liebherr LR1400 crawler crane (440-ton) equipped with full counterweight & main boom. As of the end of 2016, additional milestones were taken place keeping the project on schedule & on budget. The Maxim/AmQuip team erected our Manitowoc 18000 crawler crane (800-ton) with 240′ Main Boom to erect all processing equipment into the newly completed processing center. Shown below is the first of many picks, which will be required with the Manitowoc 18000 crawler crane. The pick below was the first piece of equipment to be set into the processing center. The scrubber drum weighed 198,000 lbs and was 100′ in length & 20′ in diameter. The Maxim/AmQuip team successfully up-righted the scrubber drum with our Manitowoc 18000 crawler crane, along with assistance from our Liebherr LTM1400-7.1 (500-ton) All Terrain Crane to safely set into position. With several months remaining on this project, our team looks forward to continuing to perform with state-of-the-art equipment and highly qualified union operators.
